BHLTV a weekly, 30-minute cable television show on health, lifestyles and consumer technology issues geared to communities of color.   Originally launched in July 2003, BHLTV featured Washington, DC Mayor Anthony Williams, District of Columbia Councilmember Sandy Allen (Ward 8) Chair, Committee on Human Services and entertaining and informative health news and feature stories of interest to the entire family. 

Hosted by Les Butler, BHLTV aired on DCTV (Comcast Channels 5) in Washington, DC. BHLTV plans to be re-launched in Fall 2004 and will include streaming media broadcasts on the BeHealthyLifestyles website.

Colon Cancer Hits Hard in Black America

African Americans are more likely to die of colon cancer than any other ethnic group in the US, despite ways to cure and even prevent the disease today. The high colon cancer risk for blacks was the focus for National Minority Cancer Awareness Week last month.

Students Receive the Gift of Knowledge

Apple Early Literacy Preschool launched its Black History Month Literacy Project on board the Spirit of Washington last month with the help of the National Education Association’s “Read Across America Day” program.  Celebrity readers included Les Butler, Mary Quattlebaum, Andre Washington, Big Tigger, Adjoa Burrowes and Alison Starling.
